Glass (score and parts)

This work was composed as a test piece for the Valaisia Brass Band to perform at the European Brass Band Championships in 2018.

It is, conceptually at least, my most ambitious work so far. It describes a philosophical game, that synthesises all of humanity's arts, culture, sciences and learning into a game played by characters within Hermans Hesse mind blowing literary work, ‘The Glass Bead Game’.

The work pushes every member of the brass band both technically and artistically, with every musician having a very significant part to play in bringing about a complete and colourful performance of this work.

It is composed in five continuous ‘moves’ and is a serious work that would challenge any higher division brass band and conductor alike. Length c. 20 mins.
